Right. This morning i tryed to take apart a set of standard VW headligts to see if i could spray the inside of them black and get a set of smocked headlights for cheap.

Turns out VW plaster the things in sealent and its impossible to get then apart without breaking them IMO

What are my options?

The only aftemarket ones that i have seen are the those ghey angel eye ones, which i think look chav

Does anywhere sell RHD plain simple smoked headlights?

Have a look on VWVORTEX.com in the Mk4 golf forum under the DIY threads/ use the search engine for 'Joey' Modded headlights. There was lots of threads about how to seperate and spray standard lights on there a while back. Must be possible as I know loads of people have done it on the MK4, sure they dont use different glue on the polo lights.... Turn the oven up more!

The oven was only on gas mark 3, but they stayed in there for a while. Burnt myself

Even if i dod get them apart they would be all chewed up and not look very good tbh

edit: Tim. Like you say the glue is probs the same so given enough time it would melt, but the design on the 9n headlights is such thay you have to chew the plastic casing up to get a screwdriver in there to lever the glass out

I've heard of people using film to tint them, have you considered that? Not sure how good the finish is tho

Has potential, but that would reduce the overall performance of the lights.

Spraying the non essential parts on the inside wouldnt have any detrimental effectss

Ah ok, I imagine spraying the inside would look better also

Cheers for that Tim. I can see mk4 headlights being easier to split compared to 9n headlights. I may give it another go 2moz night and just crank the oven up and see what happens

Tinting the inside of your lights WILL affect the amount of light they put out!

The mirror finish as standard will reflect a much larger amount of light than a dark reflection surface!

If you are going to tint them i'd think about fitting HID's aswell

Round two failed . It really is impossible to split them

I'd just spray the outside or get the film then mate
