Alloy advice for Polo Mk4 1.4 CL

Hey guys, new to the forum. I have a Mk4, blue Polo that i have been gradually modding the exterior. Currently i'm after alloy wheels, i'm looking to increase the size of the wheel to around 15 or 16". I was just wondering if it is an easy process to up the size of the wheel from the standard 13 to a 15 or 16? Will 15s fit easily? Or would I have to make various adjustements as well? Also could i have some advice on which alloys would look good on a Polo? I'll post up a pic of my polo when i've taken one. Cheers, Josh.[/img]

Welcome to the site mate.

15s will fit no problems, as long as they're the correct offset and not massively wide.

15" 6.5j with 195/45/15 with a 45 offset would be a pretty much standard look at things, you could increase the wheel width or tyre profile size or anything by all means though!

I recommend some good old Schmidt TH-liners 8)

cheers for the quick reply mate! OK so 15s would fit ok? I cannot be arsed with lowering, so i thought i'd just increase the wheel size to mildly compensate lol. But yeah, i'll post up a pic of my Polo when I take one tomorrow. I've replaced the grills, all lights, aerial, interior ICE, seat covers etc. I'm buying some M3 wing mirrors too but i really want alloys lol. Thanks for the advice

So would I lads :lol:

With bigger alloys you compensate arch gap but raise the car. On 15's it'll look a silly height but 16's would make it look like a beach buggy! So to get a good look you coud get 14's with a really wide lip to still have stunning rims but keep height low enough :idea:

Everyone can tell you what rims are best but it all depends on your budget really.

Few pics of the motor in question would help and show us your progress :wink:

ok, so 14s would be best? I don't want the car looking ridiculously high. I don't have a problem with the current height its at but not much higher otherwise it'll looks s**t. Here's a pic i took just now of the front and back. Also i am aiming to spend between 1 and 200 quid for alloys, maybe second hand ones, so if anyone could recommend good ones for my Polo?

hmm i prefer spoke alloys, but not big spokes. Alloys with 3 or 4 large spokes don't suit Polos in my opinion, alloys with a number of spokes suit them better. Could you recommend any? I know nothing about alloys.

Umm.. not so sure about cheap alloys,

Maybe some multi spokes? have a browse on eBay see what you find

I don't understand this - if you get bigger alloys you get lower profile tyres to compensate. the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre stays exactly the same. so does the arch gap, everything is the same except there's more wheel and less tyre.

the only reason you would change the arch gap or raise the car is if you fitted the wrong wheel/tyre combo.

The radius on larger wheels will be bigger therefore higher off the ground

But lower profile tyres compensate for that? Otherwise our speedos would be wrong!
