1.0 clattering at idle -HELP - is this normal???

Post by Carl GILLESPIE »

When the 1.0 polo i was looking to buy was ticking over it made a very clattery noise that came from the exhaust.

I was told that this is a normal characteristic of these 1.0 polos but is this true or should i just walk away.

Btw, the car has a new exhaust middle section.

As usual your replies are appreciated.

Cheers

i wouldnt call them clattery, mine runs quite smoothly, if a little low on idle revs at times, which is a characteristic of them. id check out the engine n exhaust system properly if i were you....i smell a rat.

well my mate says it has had new middle section fitted so it is possible that it hasn't been secured properly.

if this was the case would it stop making the 'stone in a tin can rattling nosie' when revved up?

Cheers for your reply mate.

you've got to isolate the noise. if you put your foot on the exhaust does it stop - as if you're dampening it?

the 1.0L engines are NOT clattery.
