what size is the spline drive needed to do the golf gti steering wheel change?, i.e to take the wheel off, and is there only 1 or more?
also, apart from the steering wheel sensor and the auto closure windows, what else do you lose from taking the battery off? radio code, presets, central locking, do you need to re program the remotes etc?
and what needs doing after the new wheel is fitted, are there any warning lights to remove etc,
only mine will be arriving tuesday and i want to be prepared and have everything ready and in place to do the change,
i will be able to get locktite (sp) from halfords wont i?
cheers
jeff

Well Jeff I cheated and had a tame mechanic fit mine for a tenner!
My radio code and everything didn't need re-programming, mind you the battery was off less than 10 mins.
I didn't get any steering angle sensor lights either but it was good to have someone with all the diagnostic gear to hand just in case.
Once the battery is re-connected and the car started, the steering was turned fully one way then the other and no warning lights came on when mine was both fitted and removed. Maybe I was just fortunate.
There are a few threads on the wheel change over on uk-mkivs, you'll need to search under Multi function steering wheel change (MFSW) I think because there used to be a really good guide on there.
Enjoy your new wheel, definately one of the best mods for the Polo.

Ah, the spline drive, pretty sure it was an M12
Didn't get any CELs at all. The fitment of mine was very straightforward, as was removal and re-fitting of my old one when they were swpped back.

Mind if ur disconnecting the battery for any length of time u need to full close then open ur window a couple of times with ur finger kept on the button to reset ur limits as such. Seemly the auto open/close can stop working if ya dont?

Sorry for late reply. I dont have a clue what spline drive I used - I just kept trying until one fitted

If anyone has Elsa that should say whats needed? Think the airbag warning light will only come on if you reconnect the power before re fitting the airbag and I believe the radio wont lock out in the time it'll take for you to swap the wheel (all of 5 mins), reset the steering by going lock to lock after re connection and re set the windows as above. Definately wont need to reprogramme the remotes.
This mod made such a difference to the feel of my GTi - really worth it imo. Did you go for the Edition 30 one with red stictching?

I would always disconnect the battery when working on the electrics, especially when airbags are concerned. Its not worth the risk Jeff. Trust us no warning lights come on. Edition 30 wheel is great - i love mine and it matches our leather interior spot on
