Right then....

Am going to look at a 6n2 Polo 1.4 8v (60bhp) SE. The car has done 98k, But has one owner from new and a full VW service history, And had the cambelt done at 85k. I have been told that its in really good condition in and out. Its my first car so dont wanna spend loads on a car, But this one is up for £2500, But the guy said he will drop it £200 or so for cash, So £2200.

Whats people opinions?

And what should i look out for?.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the site mate,

What reg is the car? With milage that high look out for any whining from the gearbox, the condition of the clutch (if it's not been replaced at some point it may be on its way out soon), pedalboxes on these cars can be temperamental too.

They're great little cars, highly recommended. And with the cambelt change and full service history it sounds like you've got yourself a nice one 8)

In all honesty, I think its a tad dear considering the mileage. If I were you I would be looking in the 1800 figures for it.

Thanks

The car is on a 2000 X. I will be going over the car with a fine fine comb. I will try and get the car down abit, As i will be paying with cash so am saw he will do a deal. Or at least get a full 12 month MOT and 6 month tax.

This will be my first car so am hoping this car is a good as they garage says it is.

Well here is an update.

I saw a 1.4 TDI SE on Autotrader today. So went down to Blackburn, The advert said very good condition in and out!. Went down looked good. Got near and the bottom of the bumper had a nice big dent, the side panels had deep scratches, And it looks like she has caught something on the rear RHS. With 2 big and DEEP scratchs in the side window. Oh it was in Blackburn so a waste of a day.

Tomorrow am gonna look at the other one, He said he would take £2100 for it. Its from a dealer so i will see if he will go down on price. Would you say £2000 would be good?. Or try and get tax and MOT out of him?.

Thanks

Well it was a good motor, Body work was A1 not a mark at all on it!. But somebody had smoked in the car, Which there was no signs of it, Other than the smell which wasnt strong. Fired it up and it wasnt sounding amazing, It was vibrating a fair bit on tickover and there was a tapping noise. So i thought maybe its cold took it for a run, But it was still there. Could here a very slight whin from the gearbox and the clutch had loads of play in it, Also it juddered when you slipped the clutch, So am thinking the clutch and gearbox is worn. With 98k am not surprised.

Anyway. I have seen another on Ebay, Its a Polo 1.4 SE 75BHP, The windows are working and it says the switchs have gone.

What price would it cost to buy them? Or if the motors have gone (worse case) what are they costing. I can fit them myself.

Thanks

Switches are cheap, around £10.

Don't take they're word for it though, because if it's the motors they'll cost a lot more. Makes sure you know EXACTLY which one it is.

anything 2001 and after is 6N2, 2000 is the grey area, bascially if it looks like my car (in my sig) it's a 6N2.

I don't know how much motors retail for but I'm guessing it would be at least £100

The car is a 6N2 (2000 V).

I have seen some new non genuine motors on Ebay for £60 each.

I have seen yet another, 2000V 1.4 SE (75bhp) with 52k full history and from a dealer in A1 condition in and out, He is asking £3200, But i offered him £2900 for cash and he said yes, So i need to have a look this week.

Does that seem a fair price?.

I'd try and get him as close to 2.5k as I could, what's the Tax and MOT like on it?
