Other day I was goin up a hill and noiticed a whining noise. I was accelerating at the time so I lifted my foot off and the noise stopped. I tried it on and off then after that and it seemed that the whining is infact related with me accelerating. Parked the car up shortly after this and drove it 12 hrs later. Never heard the noise since. Please tell me this isnt my gearbox going. The gear changes are fine and smooth and Im just coming up to 37,000 miles on the car. Asked a mate and he said it could be something to do with the clutch?!

Any help appreciated

I think your fine in terms of the gearbox.

gearbox whines are more related to the clutch, as in:

Whines when the clutch is up, but not when depressed.

Grinding gears and popping out of 5th etc etc.

A gearbox whine wouldn't be affected by the accelerator alone
