since yesterday my brake lights stay on even with the engine of. was wondering if its just a dodgy brake sensor or if it could be another problem? if it is the sensor is it easy to fix? also where is it and is it easy to get to?

Sounds like exactyl what my brother had on his mk4, do you have to click the pedal back up to turn off, in which case it is...
It cost my bro £100 to fix as they had remove the pedal box...

Thats just the brakelight switch. £10 to replace from VW

easy enough to change too - old one just unplugs and twists out above the brake pedal
Cant work out why they would need to take the pedal box out josh...musta been something more serious than just the switch!

not the hand brake no. the actual brake lights when u put the brake pedal down. first time i did move the pedal and ot sorted itself out. then was told by my neighbour it was on at about 3 this morning when he got up. i went to work at about ten and it still was on and through work which was about 6 hours so i decided im gonna unplug the battery as i dont want a flat battery as well.
im hoping it is that easy as alexperkins says as my godfather says hes gonna have a look tuesday as he didnt have a chance today. if it is that simple thats great as im trying to save money to. unless anyone can think of another reason wat it could be.........
failing that does anybody know exactly how to do it or know wat page to look at in the haynes manual if its in there as i couldnt find it?
