Amen brother. Diesel FTW
Now I better run before I get shot...
* Disclaimer: I'm not in either the diesel clan nor the petrol clan. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. So don't shoot me.

Hooooly crap!!!!! I never realised how much road tax had gone up!!!!! I'm glad we sold the CTR last year cos it would have crippled us!!!!
I've just done the road tax on mine this week it's gone up to £120 for 12 months....... As we have two vRS's that means together they are the same as we would have paid on the CTR!!!!
I'm starting to be thankfull i decided against the Fiesta ST or waiting for the new Polo GTi when i was looking for my car.
Cheers
Dave.

Looks to me like you got that stuff from parkers website.
Im not sure buying a diesel is the answer given that diesel will always be more than petrol now and the saving difference may get less and less. Whats annoying is there is enough petrol really, especially in aberdeen where deep mining can get new finds which last 15 years. But its in the media now and it will keep going up.
Anyway its not £400 for every gti since it doesnt work out like that
Ones registered in 2000-02 are only £200 for 12 months in 2010.

The only polos that cost £425 are the 06 onwards polo gti ones and if you can afford £15k or whatever they cost Im sure you can afford £425 for a years tax. Its probably down to the huge emissions at 190, when non gti cars with same engine such as an 06 corsa 1.7 sxi are only 130 emission rating.

it does stink, britain should be rewarding the peole who are paying for the use of the road not making it harder for us and doubly expensive
it should come down harder on those not insuring/taxing vehicles, the ones screwing the system

06 onwards Polo GTI wont cost us £425. Although the tax rates will go up, the £425 showroom/first year tax only applies to new cars registered in 2010/2011 after 1st April 2010
Currently there are bands A-G, the new Polo GTI is in band F. Tax bands A to M are introduced on the 1st April 2009 and will apply to cars registered after 1st March 2001. Polo GTI then falls into band J
Current tax rates for Polo GTI owners. Tax for 2007/2008 (F) was £205, 2008/2009 (F) is 210 and tax for 2009/2010 (J) will be £260 and i believe 2010/2010 will be £270.
New tax rates always apply from 1st April, so say your tax expires end of Feb 09 and you tax your car to start from March 09. It'll still only cost you £210 not £260. If your car expires in April/May and if you're really worried about the £50 increase, surrender your tax disc for a refund end of Feb and then renew your tax disc.
