Obviously throwing on an exhaust package will up the sound but what cheap things can I do? mine is a 1.0 so I don't think I can get an induction kit............ Can I?

i think you can get a k&n filter that will sit on the top

If it's an H or J plate, you can de-cat it, that makes it a little noisier (and frees up a little more power).

OK, I've heard loads of people going on about K&N filters, what r they? Might have to get one, even thou I don't want any more noise coming from the engine, but does it sound more fit? Rarther than a little cat running around in a wheel? OOoohh listen to those 4cylinders go! Oh wait a sec, make that 3

A K&N is a performance air filter, these either sit on top of the throttle body in single point injected cars or are called "Induction Kits" in multipoint cars. As you've got a multipoint engine, you'll want an induction kit.

This is my engine bay, the K&N is the pink/purple cone with the chrome end on the offside of the engine bay. You can't actually buy a K&N induction kit for the GT (only the G40), I've got a Golf airflow meter on mine which has a bigger bore.
For the GT you can get a Pipercross filter, similar thing but it's made of foam. Dan (hardhitter) has one on his car, and I used to have one on mine.

Yes, I used to have a pipercross induction kit on my GT. The problem I found was the amount of dirt it collected in a short space of time. Other than that it worked well.
I'm going to try and get round to making some induction kits for the GT, using a cotton gauze type cone filter (same as K&N). These will also be suitable for the NZ engine (like you have) because the air flow meter is the same.

There is an option to build a induction kit for singlepoint injected polos (the AAU 1.0l and AAV 1.3l)
I did it myself on my own 1.3L (Enginecode AAV)

This selfmade induction kit contains parts of the Golf Mk2 1.8l singlepoint injection Engine (Engine Code RP) These parts are more or less "plug&play"on the 1.0l (AAU) and 1.3l (AAV) Polo engines.
You also can use parts from the Mk3 Golf 1.8l monopoint engine (Enginecode ABS)
You'll need the throttlebody top and the pipe. (instead of the standard pipe, I used a homemade alumium pipe, as you can see)
And I can tell you it gives a big sound improvement to a little polo engine

Well from 1000rpm till somewhere about 3000rpm its the engine that gives a nice sound, and from 3000rpm and up my exchaust takes over

where are your engine exaust pipes? as you can see from my pics there are pipes froming from the engine exaust. I take my car on a lot of short journeys (i know its bad dont tell mee).

They are at excatly the same place as those one your engine

all Polo engines are basicly the same in that way

So inlet manifold behind the engine and exhaust frontsided.
Your talking about the preheated air valve if I´m correct, well that part is gone

Where the red ring is, I've got pipes coming out of there, what did you replace instead of the pipes? the whole tank or something (one that didn't have outlets on it?)

You mean this:
I removed the deflector plate, and piping thats all actually
Why I did this, the pipe and deflector plate were not in a good condition, and I have plans (and the parts) to change my exhaust manifold.
