ECU Failure? Breakdown

My car is currently in the garage after me breaking down in it right on a busy roundabout.

It suddenly cut out and refused to start, everyone thought it might just be the distributor cap or something simple but after plugging it into the diagnotics machine we see that there is a problem with the ECU and the way it is controlling the engine.

My mechanic is worried I will need a new ECU (mega expense)

I find out tomorow what is going on but after browsing this site I have not really come across anyone else saying they have had this problem.
Anyone?

Am I doomed?
I can maybe get it fixed under warranty from were I bought it

Thanks guys

^ Thanks for reply

I got a call today and it turns out it was an electrical problem that caused the ecu to fail but not break.

Its fine but I need to replace fuses and buy a few new parts. Luckily nothing too expensive though.

I coundn't tell you what is exactly wrong with it but I will soon find out.

Thanks
