I bought a sony xplod 250w amp of ebay a couple of weeks ago.
Bought a wiring pack yesterday from motorworld.
Installed it today and the amp got ridiculously hot and there was a burning smell.
What have I done wrong? Is there something wrong with my amp?
Thanks

Or the gains are too high and it's putting too much strain on the amp.

or that

Or you are running it in 2ohm when its a 4ohm amp. have you got it bridged at all?

Ok sounds promising. How should it be grounded? I (stupidly perhaps) let my dad fiddle with it and he grounded it to a self tapping screw to the under boot carpet.

It needs to be grounded to bare metal. Preferable the grounding point behind the left rear light, as that is a proper point! Try regrounding it to there (accessed by removing the shelf via two torx screws underneath)

Sounds like you have a faulty amp buddy. Contact the seller for replacement, or get hold of sony.

eBay isn't the greateest place for amplifiers, my mate bought one off there and experienced overheating just like yours.

Yer thats what I'm thinking! Still, at 5.50 for the amp I'm happy to chuck it away and try again! But I cant get on ebay at the moment and my sub has arrived! Anything I can try in the meantime?
