Hi all,

Had the aircon serviced today at my local stealer.....£75 but what a difference it makes....its great,and a nice smell about it aswell!!

Anyway, as I was driving home today I noticed that whenever my cars front wheels went over a significant bump or a slight pot hole in the road,I could hear a sort of metal bang/clang noise coming from the under bonnet....I could also feel a slight vibration through the steering wheel at the same time!!

I am assuming that this is something to do with steering mechanism!!

Do I need to be worried?
Do I need to take action on this now,or should I take it to my local mechanic and get him to give it a once over?

My car has not been moded in anyway,apart from cosmetically....so it has standard GTi wheels and suspension!

Any advice is much appreciated guys!!

Was it banging and rattling before it went into the dealership?

When I took mine in to have the clutch cable done, I got home and popped the bonnet to have a look at the job and found a giant pair of pliers wedged between the subframe and the wishbone...

If they had fallen anywhere else they could potentially have damaged the driveshaft or the exposed brake pipes....


Deffinatley worth checking....

If it was fine before you took it in, then take the car back and make them have another look...for free!


Its possible that you have a duff bush...most likley ARB....

Jack the car up, pull off the front wheels and have a really good look around....

No,it wasnt making the noise before it went to the dealers.

sounds like the wishbone bushes to me, i had a knackered bush when i got mine n it knocked whenever i hit a lump. replaced the wishbone, problem sorted!

If you sure it wasnt making the noise before it went into the stealers TAKE IT BACK!

Make them have a look for free!
