my mums looking to buy a bluemotion just wondered if anyone has any feedback, comments or things should know about it, reasons not to buy etc, reviews etc? cheers

I've heard that your better of just getting the 1.4 SE with the TDI engine as that will offer the same MPG for the same price but with more luxury and performance compared to the bluemotion. I'm peronally weary of hybrids but thats me.

Its a little noisy, but drives very smooth and is incredibly economical. I took the demo one to london and back on 10 quid, which was incredible. Plus the road tax is like free!

hmm is it actually a diesel? shes got a mark 4 polo which shes had since new and loves it nothing as ever gone wrong with it, just thinks its about time to sell and would like a new polo, but with the crazy petrol prices would like to drive something economical.

Forgot to mention has to be automatic, are they manual only? I know its a bit hypocritical wanting an economic car AND an automatic, but seriously this woman just cannot drive a manual, her liscence is only automatic and she just wont learn on a manual.

No its not a hybrid. I'm pretty sure its just a 1.4 Diesel Engine, no batteries or anything.

The reason its a bluemotion is they've just made the engine more efficient, made the body more aerodynamic and made the tyres thinner. All this adds up to bring down the emissions. I believe there are two different models, one with air con and one without. Only the one without gives free tax, as the one with air con pushes the emissions just over the limit, but I think the tax is still pretty cheap. Also I've heard that the mpg figures quoted are a bit of an exageration, but then again, I get around 50mpg average on my GT (1.9 TDI) so this would probably get nearer around the 60 mark on the same journeys (mostly motorway)

All that info is what I can remember from when I saw it tested on Fifth Gear a while ago. Tom Fords Mrs drove it and only managed to get around 48-50mpg from a tank (but then again it was brand new and not run in )

I very much doubt they have an automatic, but I don't know about that. Tell her to learn how to drive a proper car!

the bluemotion is a very economical 1.4tdi engine, so definately not a hybrid as Gra said.

i've heard quotes for the mpg upto 80mpg!!! i've got a feeling, that once this is run in, it would be possible. afterall i have had my car upto 70mpg on a couple of times driving like a complete grandad
on the way back from the Spring Festival, i averaged 62mpg easily!

the road tax on the standard model is free, and if the air con version pushes the emissions up a little it should only be to £35 a year.

Seat also do an Ibiza with exactly the same engine as the Bluemotion called the Ecomotive which is also free tax, these are the only cars currently available to buy in the uk that are tax free.

62mpg?! that's literally twice my average lol.

Free road tax would be awesome!!

It would make a great run around in a few years when you can pick up a second hand one at a decent price.

hmm. personally id love one but theres no way my mum is gonna get anything other than an automatic. can anyone reccomend a good automatic car that does relativly good mpg considering its an automatic? The day my mum drives a manual, there will be peace on earth, so its not gonna happen.

just something good, automatic, reliable, not too expensive, suitable for a middleage woman lol
