power problem with acceleration

hey, i currently drive a 1.4 8valve, my mum had it before me. But a few years ago it had a sudden loss of power, my mum took it to the garage and they fiddled and said they fixed some things (so now its more like a 1.2 than a 1.1 like it was) but they said they couldn't work out the problem. Alex Perkins ran a computer check on it the other day for me and concluded that its the knock sensors 'shorting to ground'. It's annoying me that i'm paying insurance to drive a 1.4 and its more like a bloody 1.2!

If anyone has any experience in 1.4 8 vavle CLs having this problem? or some advice on what it could be? any mechanics? quotes on getting it repaired? any one know how to? all would be greatly appreciated.

When was your last service, as I member causing pressure and some over heating in the 1.0 engine quite some time back. This caused the oil to break down at a very quick rate, cuasing the new oil that had done no more than 200miles to feel really thick as if it hadn't been changed for 15,000. This caused the engine to loose quite some power, maybe a similar scenario with you, or maybe its asking for an oil change? Hard to tell really as it all depends on how much power you have lost.

less than 10,000 miles ago (a year ago) it had a full service and all the filters n all that were changed, as my mum took the car to the garage about it. They didn't determine what it was. Has anyone got any more ideas? lol
