Hi all!

Looking to order a new Polo GTi in the next month or so - subject to a test drive. (I have sent my driving license off for renewal so can't do so yet!) Have been scouring the net for reviews, and the recurring issue that seems to crop up is that it is a 'harsh, uncomfortable ride'... now obviously it's going to be firmer, but is it really as bad as is made out? Wondered if any current owners could give me some input!

I currently drive a C2 VTS HDi which is also a pretty firm ride, and until last September had a TT Roadster which was pretty much back-breaking, LOL, so I should be accustomed to it. And I know the best thing to do is judge for myself on a test drive.... but I'm impatient in the meantime!

personally i found it crashy not hard, i thought it was actualy too soft and liable for the car to roll excessively in the bends

nothing that a good set of coilovers didnt sort out, now its firm and comfortable, being comfy enough to use everyday, and predictable on the edge of performance too

you will love it, with a few mods, they are a serious bit of kit, im on my second already, and dont think ill ever want to part with this one

I've been dithering for ages about what to get - contemplated a BMW 1-series M Sport, a Mazda MX-5, but my mind keeps coming back to the Polo GTi, it just seemed to 'fit' if that makes sense!

The ride can be quite crashy.. and for long journeys the lack of 6th gear drives me mad... too noisey on the motorway... the exhaust drones and the revs are too high for 70-80 cruising...

But I have my Polo for fun... and that it has in bucket loads... chipped up goes very quick indeed...

Would I buy another... Hmmmm... probably not - I would defo find something with a 6th gear - it would make all the difference....

I would look for a MK5 Golf 2.0 GTI I could afford - comfy, handles well, plenty gears and DSG available, and remappable to 250-270 bhp...

Ok, thanks for the advice. Might have to put it on hold for a little while anyway as my husband's just about to take delivery of his new car so funds a little lower! Will give me plenty of time to think about it though.
