Reliability

Hi guys/gals,
I was just wondering if anyone would care to share their stories on how reliable VW Polo's have been to them?
I mentioned to someone at work today that I was picking mine up Saturday and straight away he started going on about how much they break down and how they are just loads of trouble? Not really the sort of thing you want to be hearing after you have just forked out a load of money for one
I just wanna know now if hes right or not

Hopefully not...
Many Thanks
Dan

Well, my wife's had her MK4 Polo for over 4 years now & the only trouble we've had is a front suspension mounting bush that needed replacing & the cylinder head gasket that's starting to blow (getting it fixed this Friday). Apart from these little niggles, it's been trouble free. It has had regular oil/filter changes etc. I've had my MK5 for 2 years and apart from the engine light coming on (fixed by renewing spark plugs) it has been fine. I find Polos very reliable if you look after them.

if u wanna go on about reliability how about this, my mum has had her 1.3 mk4 for about 10 years now and the only problem shes had as far as im aware is an electrical problem ages ago that got sorted but nothing since then.
me on the other hand im a different story, i owned my mk4 for over 4 years and between the mileage of 50000 and 60000 i had a new clutch, engine rebuild, new pedal box, new battery and new break light switch.... the light switch and battery arnt exactly bigies. but i know a mechanic so i got the work done a shed load cheaper.
how many miles has it done? any service history and work done on it?
its just like everything that relies on electrics, they are gonna go wrong at some point. just a question of weather ur the lucky one or unlucky one.
Cool

Didn't think he was entirely right, I have always seen VW and most German cars as very reliable due to the build quality and design.
I guess every car has problems, its just due to wear and tear. Well I will make sure I service mine and look after it

Then I will prove him wrong when it lasts longer than his.. Gotta be better than the Ford Fiesta I am getting rid of

My previous Polo never put a foot wrong in the three years I had it. It was always reliable, and as long as you keep it maintained, it will serve you well.
A good idea is to check the pollen filter and the drain holes under the scuttle panel. They tend to get blocked from time to time, and can cause a mini-flood in the cabin!
