.. is broken?

Please excuse my lack of technical part knowledge in the thread title, I have no idea what the bit is called . I have pictures to show what I mean.

Here is my current headlamp:

As you can see in the bit that is circled the adjustor thing has snapped off:



Here is my old headlamp where it is still intact:



What happened was I had terrible condensation in my old headlamp and I had the opportunity to buy a 2nd hand one for a good price, the only downside being that that part had broken.

My car was due for a service so I asked VW to swap the headlamp for me and also transfer the bit that was broken. Around Christmas time I realised I was getting condensation in my indicator so I went to pull it off and have a look. It was only then I realised they hadn't swapped the bit over , so I just let it be to be honest.

It's starting to get on my nerves now though. Basically what I want to know is, can I get the indicator off without this bit? And how easy would it be to fix the problem?

The bit you've circled in the first picture is not the indicator arm, it's that smaller stick located to the lower left of the circle.

Looks like your looking at the headlamp adjustor thats broken, which aint good news

i had the same problem. i used some long nose plier to pull the bit up( i dunno the technical name either) but once u done that u can just push it down with ur finger then pull it up again with the pliers. u could always buy the part and replace it.

i thought that at first when i saw it...... i fit is the light adjuster then ignore my other comment but if it is the "lever" that holds the indicator in then theres my answer to it..........

Yeh it maybe actually, I'm not 100% sure though.

Is condensation the only thing wrong with your old one?

Yes. It was shocking towards the end to be honest.

Ah I see,.

Look into changing the part over. Alex has both headlamps with the same problem, he may be able to shed some more light onto whether it's possible or not.

if ur talking about changing the bit that holds the indicator in place its easy........... altho thinking about it, i dont have the gti so im guessing the light units are different. i have the standard 6n2 not gti. the standard ones are easy u can just pul them out and pop a new one in. 2 min job (once u got the bumper of and the headlight out...... mgiht be able to do it with the light in place) but looking at the gti lights they dont look the same on the side unless its just the picture quality.

Nah it's the manual headlamp adjustor that's broken kipper
