16v Distributer Question

The distributer on my poor little polo has packed in and I'm having to replace it , problem I've got is how can I tell exactly what distrubter I've got , I know that sounds like a silly question , but I went in to get the new part yesterday and told the person behind the counter that I need a marelli distributer for my R reg 1.4 16v polo , but apparently this wasn't enough info
So can anyone help ?
