Legal Or Illegal?

I'm a bit of a symmetrical freak and i've been toying on the idea for quite some time. Now the idea is that on the set on 6n2 rears that I have when putting the car into reverse only one reverse light, lights up on the left hand cluster. But I was thinking about doing was smashing out the rear fog light filter and wiring up the reverse light to the right hand light cluster.
But is it necessary for a car to have a rear fog light? Is it an M.O.T failure without one?
Cheers

yes you need to have a rear foglight working I believe for MOT purposes if the car is equipped with one.
And only one reverse light come's up on mine, I don't really see what the problem is, for you to go through all this trouble

i think you need one regardless of whether one was fitted originally... someone i know has a jap import and he had to have some gypsy one fitted on the bumper so it would pass its MOT

someone i know had some rear lights but they had to have a seperate fog light to pass the mot... as long as u got one working fog and reverse its fine. the lights i got on my car at the mo have a reverse and fog on both sides but the company i brought them of said u dont have to wire them both up if u dont want to as long as u got one of each...... not sure if it mkes a difference on wat side theyre on or not tho.

For MOT
Must be fitted to all vehicles first used on or after 1st April 1986,
Rear Fog lamps
must be fitted to the centre or offside of the vehicle
tell-tale must work
must not be affected by other lamps and not be obscured
must be red.

Ah Right Cheers Guys! Looks like i wont be doing that then!
@ Haris. It's not a problem Just thought it looked a bit odd with one reverse light, it's not major to me. Another probable reason was, I wanted to be a bit unique.
But Cheers again. Much appreciated!

A fog light is necessary for MOT but reverse isn't. Therefore if you want a symmetrical look then change the reverse into another fog!

100% ask you local MOT tester and you'll also notice they never check if sat there watching them. You can also find info on MOT regulations which state the same.

Only 1 fog lamp is required, so manufacturers to cut costs only fit 1 and on the other side a reverse lamp, saves manufacturing a larger light unit. The same argument is true with brake pipes, why fit steel pipes that rust, all down to cost.

Reverse lights are a none testable item during an MOT, i send many trucks to MOT's so trust me. Rear fog is a MUST and should be on the o/s/r of the vehicle, being on the n/s/r could result in a failure depending on the tester.
