I have an older N reg 1300 polo and it wont start. Its making a funny "whirring" sound, coming from under the middle of the car around the petrol tank area when the ignition lights com on. On full turn of the key, it starts for a second and cuts out. Any ideas? This has just happened.

mine did something similar this morning, turns out my battery was knackered, asif left the interior light on overnight. sounds obvious but have you tried charging it? mine only had enough power to light the dash and attempt to turn over, then just cut out.
ive heard that they use an aweful load of power to start up, and then alot less after... give it a try...

thanks for replyin. car seems to be ok now??? without doin anythin to it. a friend sugested that it might have been a blockage in the fuel line that cleared itself. he said i should put a fuel cleaner in the petrol tank with the next fill up. are polos prone to this happening? any comments on this? thanks....
