Seen that before. It would be cool to have all the marks up against each other!
In all fairness though, by the time they got to the mark4, the GTi wasn't the top of it's range like it was with the mark1. It also depends which mark4 GTi they used there. I'm guessing the straight 1.8, which along with the 2.0 version is pretty sh*t for a GTi. If it was the 1.8t or the anni it would've been a different outcome

i thought the mk4 gti had a 150bhp 1.8t, and later a 180bhp 1.8t, also the 2.0 n/a and then a 150bhp gt tdi. never thought they did a n/a 1.8 though as a gti.

how weird, didn't know that!
if you look at the figures for the 1.8 n/a gti and the 2.0 n/a gti the 1.8 is faster and more powerful, and with a smaller cubic capacity. If proof is needed that vw got it wrong with the 2.0 gti then there it is

i agree the mk4 gti was poo, looked no different to standard golfs of that range

apart from the anni, but it was at a time when the hot hatch was dead

!! Now its back
