Just put a set of 16" Fox racing alloys on my 1.4SE Polo with 195/45 tyres. However the car looks lyk its sitting to high and so im thinking of lowering. Just wondering what is the best height to lower it by. I want the wheels to fill the arches nicely but not too much that the wheels hides under the arch!

Also is compressing the springs just as good as buyin a set of H&R lowering springs?

i would say a 35mm drop would be fine! what do you mean as in comprssing the springs does that mean chop them?

For god sake dont chop them!

Your speedo will be out if you have 45 profile tyres on 16" wheels

You need 40 profile

H&R are a quality company, they will be far better than "compressing" your springs

I'd look at getting 40 profile tyres mate, it won't sit as high, it'll look miles better and if you do get it lowered it won't scrub as much if at all (totally depending on the height).

I'd look at a 60+ drop

the wheel will have a large circumference, so will take longer to make a full rotation, therefore will technically be going at a different speed to what your speedometer tells you.

In this case though it's very minimal, its the last thing you'll have to worry about.
