wing mirror and stereo/speaker question..

Post by kaz »

hey guys, i have a few questions that have cropped up. Firstly on the passenger side wing mirror (stubby), the painted (colour coded) section of the mirror is exceptionally loose - lifting upwards. I am wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to the fitting of these and whether there is something I can do to tighten the two pieces abit more.

And also, I recently hooked my car upto VAGCOM which displayed an error that one of the speakers wasnt working, and i plan on getting round to fixing this. From being highlighted on vagcom is this any indication as to whether the problem would be with the connection at the speaker or the connection to the back of the stereo?

Any help would be muchios appreciated :D

cheers.

Have you checked to see if the speaker doesnt actually work?

Which one is it? Remove the doorcards and have a fiddle with the connections, see if that helps.

yeah the speaker doesnt work. Its the passenger side and I think its the speaker in the door and the speaker where the wing mirror attaches too.

I took the door cards off not long ago to change door handles/window switches etc but thought the speaker and connections weren't accessible as it was only the speaker cover that came off in the door card. Althugh I could be wrong (more than likely).

Do we know if this is a common fault and/or and easily fixable?

It's easily fixed if you can work out where it's gone wrong.

If it's both the tweeter and the speaker that have gone, the problem's unlikely to be in the door. check the connector pins in the door hinge, the problem may lay there.

yeah I thought it may be too coincidental that both have gone and the fault be at each speaker. I will take the door card off at some point and have a browse whats going on. Cheers for your input Tim, legendary help :)

You dont happen to know about the wing mirrors tho? If theres a fitting that may need replacing if its been broke, or whether a nice helping of superglue to hold it down? lol

IIRC the mirror plastics are just held on by clips and snaps, it's probably loose because one has broken.

DIY it, or get a new one
