Well its almost time for the service on my GTi and i definately am gonna need new front tyres!
So come on guys, give me some suggestions on tyre choice!?
I've had experience of Yokohoma's and Toyo's on my mk5 and obviously the Dunlops which are currently on, but is there any others i should look at??
Cheaper the better as i'm soon to become an Apprentice!!! (back to the bottom rung of the ladder for earnings

I wont be buying Toyo T1-R's again. They have cut up very badly at the edges, not sure if this is a bad thing but doesnt look too healthy!

Funny u should post this, was getting prices for new tyres today. I had some ideas what kind of thing I wanted so got some prices.
From my local tyre fitting place fitted/balanced ....
Dunlop Sport Maxx - £77
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 - £79
Continental SportContact3 - £79
Toyo Proxies T1S - £69
Toyo Proxies T1R (apparently softer compound??) - £72
The guy said the Toyo's are more superior than the Dunlop's or the Conti's. And the Goodyear was a good one to go for too.... i'm undecided though.
..... Decisions decisions
Any recommendations anyone, and why?

F1's
Just put some 16" T1R's on the car on the standard alloys for trading it in and they are seriously rubbish compared to the F1's i had on the LM's. The Toyo's are ok in the dry, a little squeeky if accelerating hard as they scrabble for grip, but poor in the wet.

good year eagle f1 GSD3's, got them on my 16's and they grip like glue
or
toyo proxes t1r, have these on my cup wheels, and they are also great for grip, not as good as the eagles in the wet, but not far behind them in the dry
however the proxes are wearing out quicker that the eagles, but this is to be expected from budget tyres really
given the choice again, id have spent the extra 12 quid a corner for eagles on both sets om my wheels
