Headlights (First post, sorry its negative)Wrong Forum Sorry

Post by Dwain »

Hi,
I have a 53 plate Polo twist, it went into SKF Bury for an Mot today and they have informed me that the headlights need adjusting at a cost of over £50.00, also that they may need replacing if they cannot be adjusted. They also stated that this is quite common, replacement that is!

My qustion is, is it quite common?

They also told me two tyres need replacing, one a rear one on a car thats done 27,000 miles, the tyres have not been swapped back to front. Rears last 45,000-50,000 on my Octavia vRS.

I have called VW customer care to lodge a formal complaint, because if it is quite common there is something seriously wrong, I cannot think of any other car that needs its headlights replaced after 5 years. The car has never had a bump, never even been through a car wash.

I have also called the SKF dealer in Bolton where I ordered a brand new Polo yesterday and told them if it was the case I would be canceling my order. I think the salesman was quited shocked to here what SKF Bury were doing.

Polo headlights don't need adjusting, if one was facing up and the other down, as soon as you plugged them in they would auto align. You will find that one headlight shines higher than the other which is a common thing on all polo's its due to something to do with the road camber, whilst in Europe the other headlight shines higher ( I believe in UK its the right one), don't believe me go on vagcat and you will see different part numbers for euro and uk headlights. As for the dealers, they are just trying to rip you off, its a load of bull**** either show them up by bringing all your polo friends along with their headlights on and go look you twats! Or make them ring VW and they will tell them what I have. If anything go to another center or bring someone alot older with you to tell them its tosh.
