HELP!! How Many Polo Mk's ?

Hi
Firstly sorry to post this in here but its a "cross-polo-mark" discussion and I noticed this forum had the most topics/replies.

Ok........
We are currently seperating a database of Polo parts into relevant Polo Mk 1, Polo Mk 2, Polo Mk 3 etc etc as at the minute they are all categorised as Polo and with their being so many we feel it deserves to be split up like the Golf etc.

We have been researching the Polo model right back from when it first arrived and found this Wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VW_Polo) to be the most informative.

Would it be possible for anyone to confirm the number of Marks/Models their have been within the Polo scene i.e. from a Polo fanatic's point of view.

The Wiki page would suggest their have been 4 or 8 and we have heard of Mk 5/6's so we are presuming the F Marks (Mk1F, Mk2F etc that were essentially front end re-jigs) are counted as new releases?

Polo Mk1 (1975–79)
Polo Mk1F (1979–81)
Polo Mk2 (1981–90)
Polo Mk2F (1990–94)
Polo Mk3 (1994–2000)
Polo Mk3F (2000–02)
Polo Mk4 (2001–05)
Polo Mk4F (2005–present)

Any help clearing this up would be greatly appreciated. By the way a lot of the parts already state what Polo Mk they are for but when you cross check the dates with Mks from the many different product suppliers they dont match up!!

ALSO I notice these forums only have categories for 7 Mk's of Polo.
Cany anyone clarify which of the above is ignored as an actual 'Mk' of Polo?

Cheers
Scott

i thought the 6n only came as the 1.6 up to 1999 and the 1.6 gti was the 6n2 2000-2002?

ive seen alot of people say mk 4 1.6 gti but i always thought it was only a 1.6 and the gti model was the 6n2?

i also had 97/P seat ibiza 2.0 Gti cupra sport and it had the same dash i have now (which makes me think its a 6n dash)...
