Also - want to lower my car, does this just involve getting shorter springs (lowering springs) or is there anything else involved, soz for sounding dumb. Also, whats a sensible amount to lower which isnt rediculously low but looks good. How much am i looking at too, thanks

erm
www.dubmeister.co.uk is a recommended place buy us

as for lowering you can get the cheaper lowering springs that will go down by around 20-50mm whereas coilovers are adjustable and allow you to lower by up to 120mm. A comfortable lowering is about 60-100mm but you may suffer some scrubbage. But go as low as you can because we all think it looks awesome

hope that helped

Yeh go 60mm if you want an improved stance but not too low.
I'd also recommend dubmeister

u wont need to buy different shocks with the springs unless u lower it loads. from wat i been told if ur just using lowering springs u can go to about 50mm on ur standard shocks.
or u can get suspension kits which are shocks and springs but are only a fixed height or u can get coilies which u can adjust. i got coilies and lowered mine a fair bit. it scrubs alot but i'll get t sorted. altho if u get coilies or shock and spring sets i believe it is recommended to get new top mounts and also haynes manual say u should change the 3 bolts on the top that hold it in place but i didnt.
et37 is something to do with how far the wheels stick out but not totally sure on this and 4x100 is the stud pattern. basically where the bolts go through the wheels and into the screw holes. if the wheel isnt 4x100 then it wont fit straight on ud need adapters. also the centre bore size i think is 57.1 i think someone said on here. thats the size for the centre of the break hub or wat ever its called for the wheel to slide onto so its not just held in place by the bolts.
all i learned about cars i learnt from this site and the people on it.
knew absolutely nothing abotu it befor i signed up on here.

I wouldn't buy from PhilJ, his kits are the same as HotTuning (eBay) and they're cheaper, and more reliable.
ET is the offset of the wheel. Lower the ET the further it sticks out into the arch. 30+ is a scrub safe zone for sure.
4X100 is the standard stud pattern which all 4 bolt VWs use. If you know the stud pattern's 4X100, you know they'll fit straight onto your car. others patterns such as 5X100 will fit with adapters.
I wouldn't recommend going lower than 30mm on standard shocks.
