Chaps, just a general question...something that I've been pondering over, why have split-rims...I mean what is the purpose? I know there are 2 and 3-piece rims, put why? Thanks.

designs/width are more interchangeable.

Isn't weight a factor too? I thought splits were lighter (in general) as well.

I think they were originally design for racing applications to give teams more flexiblilty with traction options (through wheel widths). I think as well they are suppose to be stronger, though i cant remember where i read that

Also its cheaper for a race team to replace a rim rather than an entire wheel.
And of course Race Technology = s**t hot looks for you motor

Ah, I always thought it would be heavier having to have those extra bolts but I guess having the change the rim is a lot less expensive than to have to change a whole wheel...okay the next question I have is what are 'deep-dish' wheels? I assume it's to do with the ETA of the wheel in that there is more gap between the rim of the wheel and the centre where the bolts are...?
