hi all, just a quick one from me - the EPC light keeps coming on, on my 6n2 1.4 polo

ive had the codes read & the guy tells me it was pointing towards the brake light switch. Ive replaced this (cos it did start to stick) & its still on.

Ie had the codes read again & it still showing the same thing - ive replaced it again & still the same.

After disconnecting the battery for 10-15 mins, ive noticed that the light comes on when im braking for the 1st time while moving, when its connected back up - it doesnt happen when standing still.

just wondering if theres any movement sensor etc, thats related to the braking system ??

cheers

chris

Can you find out what the exact fault code is bud? It could be the ABS pump or one of the speed sensors - anything at all...unless we know the code, its a little more difficult to understand lol

ok mate, ill ask the guy who read the codes - to be honest, hes a bit useless, just keeps saying its the brake light switch !! - which it cant be !

The check light has come on today, its thrown up a problem with the oxygen sensor - seems that its been used for short journeys v regularly, so think its just a little coked up.

just wondering if both lights could be on for the same reason ??

its hard to say. check light is emissions and EPC is engine management so im not sure. Codes and we will see :)

You rearly should just change parts because thats what the fault code says!

put it this way if for example it comes up with a 02 sensor fault it may be a 02 sensor thats failed or it could be something like the airmass as gone causing the car 2 run rich which the 02 sensor is picking up unburnt fuel causing the 02 sensor fault!

i sujest you get it looked at buy a garage which is good at fault diagnosic or idely take it 2 volkswagen were we have fault diagnostic computers (not just fault readers) which makes finding the original cause of the proplem childplay! so its worth paying our high prices :( even if you just take it in for an hours diagnostic then replace or fix what ever is wrong yourself!

hope that helps!

hmmm, to be honest, from experience of main dealers, im sceptical - from what i have experienced, main dealers charge through the nose for everything !! - £50 just to plug my polo into their system is daylight robbery !.

To be honest, its a 7 year old car, so the likelyhood of the oxygen sensor being coked up are high (the check light went off a couple of times last week !).

My original problem was the check light being on, after having my fault codes read, ive now got the check and EPC lights on !!! - so it cant be anything desperately bad

im off on a run up to wales in a few days, so gonna see how it goes after blowing the cobwebs out i think !!

Have you checked that your brake lights work? It may still be brake light switch related.

hi, just got back from wales - ran like a beauty up there and back (360 miles !) - so im thinking it cant be too serious !

yea, brake lights work fine at the mo, so cant think what it could be - wondering if its a speed sensor, or similar ? & im pretty sure the 'check' light ive also got on is the oxgyen sensor needing a clean out, due to being manked up !! - ive got no idling or running probs, but got this week off work, so will try and do it this week !

guy who read the codes (and subsequently made the EPC light come on!)hasnt got a clue about what the codes were etc ! - so im gonna try and sort it myself !

Speed sensor will bring on the ABS light. EPC is engine faults like brakes, temperature sensor, missfire...things like that.

hmm, thats worth knowing - the brakes work really well & ive just come back from wales (360miles) without missing a beat !.

Im gonna give the ogygen sensor a good clean out tomorrow ~& maybe the throttle body. Apart from that, i cant see what else it could be!

Its MOT time soon, so guess that might show up any potential problems.

I was wondering if both lights could have come on for the oxygen sensor ? - if its manked up, then the exhaust gases would be affected & pull back an engine fault for the actual sensor ?

just a thought tho

Its two totally seperate looms, and systems. Anything exhaust related is CHECK and anything engine is EPC. Its probably a faulty sensor like the camshaft position or something like that

hmmm, thought that might be a bit too easy ! : )

strange, cos youdve thought itd run funny if something was nackered ? - bloody electrical systems and sensors !! it werent like this in my day !!

....ok, im only 26, but even so !! : )
