My 1.4 mpi failed its MOT today

for 2 things, tyes (new they were low anyway) and then headlights being wobbly inside so when driving the lights themsleves move around, searched it on here to find a couple of you have experienced the same thing. Is there a repair for this or am i going to need new headlights? If so wheres the cheapest place to get the new ones from? looked at KMS £72 each
Thanks
James

I had this. Not sure if they mooved whilst driving but did wobble a bit. The clips inside were broken so had to be replaced. I paid £120 for a pair brand new from a local VW shop.

Also if you knew the tyre's would fail, how comes you didn't get them replaced before hand?

i checked them and they were low but not as low as the illegal indicator, but they were illegal on the inside due to the tracking

oh I see. Unlucky mate. I had the same years ago on my old Mk4. Needed two new fronts as the tracking was out!

This headlight issue is a common one. Both sides on my old one went at different times. It was due to the plastic used in manufacture for the adjusters. As time went by, due to what its made of, it becomes very fragile and even the slightest little tap or move will shatter it, rendering the headlight loose and requiring replacement.
Newer ones are replaced with a 'pink' nylon over white, which doesnt become fragile with age

I think thats happened to mine.. though the MOT is not due yet..
the actual reflectors inside move from side to side when I take the back cover off..

yep, so when they try and adjust where ur lights point on the m.o.t, it doesnt work. installed my astrum lights today, omg what a pharce. one of the height adjusters wouldnt work, something wrong with the wiring, so had to wire it up with the old lights wiring. and was just such a pig job, the lights are in now tho, would say the astrums arent as well as the riginals, and they dont fit quite as perfect as the old ones either, nothing major at all tho, look good and i think its worth saving £30 a light.

Note that Hellas are a must if you use HID bulbs to ensure a crisper beam
