Polo Gti- Fill me in...

Hi all, new to the forum been a dubber for some time now having various mk3 golfs, currently running a Mk3 ibiza tdi, remapped with a few bits and bobs. Anyway, the SEAT goes soon and i feel its time to return to the almighty Dubworld. I eat sleep and breathe VW ( working for them may have something to do with this!) Anyway, to cut a long story short I've just ordered a new polo Gti- the 1.8 turbo in diamond black cant wait for it to arrive, work sorted me one out for the weekend- had a few doubts before taking it out but these were soon ironed out on the road test. Fell in love with the wee thing and feel its crying out for more power. So a revo stage 1 remap with dongle should see it to 200bhp ish, keep me happy for a little while. Just wondering what people's opinions on the car are, living with it, modifying it, maintaining it etc. A mate has a mk4 ibiza FR 1.8 T basically the same car underneath, loves it, but the VW,for me, seems to ooze a bit more presence. Had a brief scan through the readers rides and haven't come across any one who has one/ modified one? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Ross, Lake District.

hi and welcome
you wont regret your choice the polo has so much more presence and quality about it than the ibiza
there are a lot of modified ones on here just the majority of people have been spending the money on the important bit engin:-)
i only got my polo gti about a month ago and absolubtly love it, it is quite a quick little car and so tourqy i love it so easy to live with as a everyday car but then when you want it you can have a bit of fun,
in the next couple of weeks when funds allow im getting a remap from j @more-bhp he is on here with a bit of a monster polo have a chat with him about a remap will be a lot better value than the revo.

seconded, youll not regret it, with a few choice mods its a rightfully fun car to own live with and drive

im on my second one now i love them that much, i got rid of my foirst one for a mk5 golf gti but hated its big and heavy approach, so cant back for another agile and responsive 9n3 gti

have a look over my thread named this weeks re detail, can see what i have done to mine and may give you some inspiration

Bit of an underdog in my eyes, and often forgotten about when thinking of hot hatches. Just a few little niggles i wouldnt mind asking you all about, the gearnob- in my eyes is an absolute disgrace, and is hardly differentiated from the rest of the polo range( bar the leather trim). I presume a mk5 polo gti gear nob would fit on there without too much bother? Also the honeycomb effect front grill should be carried on into the fog light surrounds and central grill, are there any companies producing such parts?
Ollie- what sort of power gains will you benefit from with that remap? The revo stage one takes the 1.8 t to around 207bhp with similarly impressive torque figures. At around £400 ive found it hard to find another company offering a similar or better package?
Thanks Ross

ross the more bhp stage one remap takes you to over 200 bhp also with similar torque figures to that, the majority of the remaps all take roughly to around the same powers just using different softwares,

thing is j has been doing a offer for us uk polos lot so it only costs £150 for the time being mind but that is a blooomin bargain in my eyes and he has recieved nothing but possitive feedback

read his thread on here he treated one polo gti owner to a free remap lucky so and so's

time for you to speak to j his name on here is more-bhp

also there is quite a lot of people on here that have used him

im not saying that the other remaps are rubbish or anything just to me the extra cost isnt justifiable when you can get the same service and results from other companys

Definately a good choice going with the Polo!

I'm the lucky so and so with the free remap from J (more-bhp) haha.
I can personally recommend J's work also.... Still has the grin factor now.

The honeycomb grills are only available from China! A few of us on here got them (group buy). I think white-polo may be organising another one.... check out his thread and express some interest in the parts.

the grills are indeed available, as shown on my gti here,

Image

as for the gear knob, i replaced mine with an original equipment audi s-line gear knob, far nicer than the polo gti one and the mk5 polo gti one too

Image

theres also a cheeky golf edition 30 gti steering wheel in there if you diddnt notice it
as for the remaps, regardless of figures quoted by companys such as revo and APR etc, stage 1 maps tent to quote high and realistically be lower, at around 190 bhp, so go for the tuner you like apposed to the quoted figures, as they are rarely even that close

An incredibly impressive looking GTi there jeff! Thought i knew that steering wheel from somewhere! See you went for the winter pack too, an option i had to have. Ditched the leather though, like the patterned seats a lot. Made a real come back has the checked style. I remember my old mans Astra Sri having similar style seats wayyyy back in the early 90's! Funny what trends come back around isnt it!

I have kids... the leather is a must.. I only do leather now... no more cloth...

and the heated seats are so nice in winter...

Jeff - you are so right about quoted power figures... to me they mean nothing...

If the power is silky smooth with good strong progressive power - and it makes you smile - then thats the key...

having said that I have some other maps - whitepolo runs the German version - which is FULL ON - I ran it for ages on mine - its hard core ;-)

Anyway - soon we must have a rolling road day - I will get something sorted.. another thread i think....
