you get a tish, not a loud one like jap style, just a classic one... really subtle, can still scare chavs at the side of the road tho haha

@oliver. I have mounted on my polo a Forge Splitter and works just fine. The ones made by Forge won't make your check engine light on.
i've tried making it recirc, atmospheric only and both and from what i've noticed (or maybe its just me) the dual mode works best.
when i fitted it in recirc mode the engine seemed not to go so smoothly. on the other hand when putting it in atmospheric the engine seemed to get more fuel than it needed.
a friend of mine which owns a 480 bhp WRX STI explained to me that this happens because what the recycling valve does is recycle hot -air back into the intake. if you have 1.0 bar in the turbine with the recycling valve set to recycle mode only it will give back to the turbine 0.5 bar of hot air. the other 0.5 will be sucked from outside.
if you set it in atmospheric mode it will give nothing back to the engine and it will have to suck all 1.0 bar with cold air. this will take a little time and the engine will have the amount of gas for 1.0 bar, but in reality the pressure drops in the first phase to 0.5 bar. this will affect the consumption of the car, making it run on a rich mixture of air/gas. the atmospheric mode is suited for cars which already run a rich mixture.
the best way i found was both atmospheric and recycling mode.
i hope i was clear enough for ya and i hope what he explained to me was correct.
PS. you will hear the "fssss" sound only with the bonnet up. i think there isn't enough pressure in the turbine to make it sound loud.

@oliver i would recommend the splitter, even though it's a little more expensive because you can switch between modes with it. then again this is just my opinion.
@whitegtipolo. even with the bonnet up you can hear it but not so loud, so why bother. if i remove the sound isolation can i put it back if i decide to ? or its a one way operation only ?

took my sound proofing out yesterday has made a slight difference to be honest. Ive got the 007p recirculation valve.
A bit of advice no matter what you get the noise is also affected by the amount of air going into your engine. so get a mushroom filter or something if you want the noise.
Also did you kno that the standard DV on the gti is actually quite kool sounding once you remove the air box from the equation? lolo. was pratting about the other night. Take your airboxes of for ten minutes boys, itll make you cream your pants haha.
