Induction hose

I was fittin my bmc induction kit n puttin a new hose on it from the front grill. But when i was taking off my old air intake box and hose i fount a metal sensor sort of thing in the plastic hose. Just wanted to know what is it n if i need it on or not?

I know what you mean, its sort of bronze in colour and is a little cylinder on a spring?
To honest I dont know what it is but its connected to nothing and many people run without just fine, you should be okay.

yh its exactly what chris james is on about. i noticed that its not connected to anything aswell but then i was lyk why wud they bother puttin it in there then?

Ah yes that. Its basically the valve for heating the engine up quicker on a cold day. Basically, the air feed, when you start it comes off the manifold where there is heat, to quicker heat the engine up. When it hits temperature, the valve closes and allows the cold air into the engine.
