Help! - Air Box / Hose - Strange Noise / Vibration

The Polo is currently making a odd noise when the car revs at about 2000rpm.

I've taken it to the garage and the hose leading to the air box has been identified as the culprit. Unfortunately this part is no longer available from VW so I've had to use some cable ties and a jubilee clip to try and fix the vibration, but its not worked.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and what solutions they may have used. I'm not really prepared to replace it with some tubing from eBay...

Photos / diagrams would be fantastic.

Cheers,
Chris

^^ i used to have exactly the same noise on mine at around 2k...never worked out what it was....exactly like a grasshopper, kind of rattly metallic sound...weird

I ended up just thinking it was the exhaust vibrating at a certain pitch

I had the garage check the exhaust out, there's nothing obviously wrong with it.

Its definitely the air box hose because you can stop the noise by holding it a certain way...

It's very strange, almost sounds liek it's coming from behind the dash in my car :S

mine does the same its definately from the drivers side. when im coasting at around 2000 rpm there is a tinkering noise. obviously nothing to worry about if everyone is experiencing it.

I have the same symptoms as tegwin. Started not long after I fitted the BMC, have not yet found the cause, two years after it started!! Have changed the air feed hosing twice in this time and had the kit off and on again!

My car is standard....im not convinced its anything to do with the engine intake...

I was wondering if it was a loose pannel somewhere under the car.....I need to investigate...but it takes time...which I dont have!

I was thinking it may be a loose something under the car...it certainly does sound like its coming from just behind the dash mind :-s lol

Original airbox is a hard item to source these days, it might be worth switching to a BMC CDA Carbon airbox because they sound very nice and don't rattle at all.
