Fuses on top of battery - order and ratings?

Hi guys,

I have a Polo 6N2 1.4 SE 60bhp, 2000 X reg in Crayon Red (the best colour :lol: ). Been having a few problems with the ABS light coming on at 20mph, and I've narrowed it down to a corroded fuse leg in the box on top of the battery... pull fuse, scrape fuse leg with keys, reinsert fuse, problem goes away for a week or two :D .

All well and good, until I decide to stop faffing around scraping it, stop being a tight arse :oops: , and just buy a new fuse :roll: .

Here's the thing... I've got the (less than) helpful owners manual out, and it says I have four fuses in this little fuse box on top of the battery. Correct up until this point. I should have two 30A fuses for the ABS motor relay and ABS main relay, a 20A for cooler 1 level, and a 10A for the compressor.

However, I've got one 30A, one 20A and two 10A fitted in there which straight away I know is not right, and the fuse I pull and scrape to correct the ABS fault is a 20A yellow one :shock: .

I also have no idea which fuse relates to which function because the manual doesn't state what order these fuses should be in :? .

So, could I ask anyone to please post up a quick photo or clear description of what fuse should be fitted in which holder, and also which holder relates to which component?

I very much doubt getting a new fuse will solve the problem mate, its a fault with your abs, it wouldnt be 'coroding' for no reason at all, and by removing this fuse and inserting it again is only ressetting the ABS fault for a matter of time imho

Could it just be the ABS sensor sticking?

Hi guys, thanks for the answers.

It is 100% definitely down to the power supply the ABS control unit is getting, I've read the fault codes with VAGCOM and I get...

01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)
16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

... which basically means "there's something wrong, I dunno what, and it doesn't happen very often".

To test the theory of whether it's a poor connection or not, I've tried just pulling the fuse and reinserting it without a scrape, and the light comes on straight away. Give it a scrape, it stays off for a couple of weeks. Just one of those Polo things I guess.

I'm also not the first person to get these symptoms, I got the answer to the problem from a bit of googling and it's a common thing with mark 4 Golfs, though not so common with Polos - usually, it's a duff sensor or the wiring under the rear bench gets strained but both of these generate a different fault code on VAGCOM.

Anyway, a new fuse has sorted out the problem so far.

Now, I just have to pull out the dashboard and steering column because my pedal box sheared tonight.
