Got the car back from the garage, new engine mounts, but as my life can't be simple, I have a new problem.

The battery. I got the car from the garage and they told me the battery was weak. I got it fully charged, drove around a bit and parked it. One minute passed, tried to start the car again, with would not. Just has if the battery had drained. Dim lights, no engine start sound, nothing.

Strange thing is that if i connect some jump leads, the car starts instantly. It is now the only way i have to start the car, since everytime I stop the engine, the battery will instantly die.

I'm guessing it's not a battery problem, since it will start with the jump leads, drive around fine, and it wouldn't drain the entire battery in just ONE minute. But I don't now what to check. Could it be the alternator? maybe i got the cable wrong. Or the start engine that was giving me problems?


I could use some pointers, otherwise it's back to the garage, again!!

Same happened to me when the garage left my battery out for 4days when getting my gearbox fixed. Needed recharging everytime and was so far gone that one of the cells was burning without water.

Just get a new battery, i'm 90% sure thats the problem but if you think otherwise then go to any car shop who has a battery tester and get it tested. If the battery can't hold 12volts then it needs replacing.

definately change the battery i had the problem for nearly a year and i kept thinkin it was alternator or something related not the battery itself.

in the end went to kwik fit as they do free batery test and they said the battery was crap so i went to change the battery and it was all fine afterwards...

That's a dead battery alright there! Get yourself a new one, preferrably a sealed one, and even better a gel one.

Check the voltage accross te battery when the car is idling. If over 13.5v then change the battery if not its the alternator
