Hey
My igintion barrel has gone in the polo, when I turn the key I get the lights when I full turn it I get no start up, So I'm using a push start button now.

Anyways, If I get a new barrel, from the breakers and fit it, ofc the barrel somes with its own key from the doner car, Do I need to get any programming set up or should it just work?

Also If anyone knows of a polo being broken with all door locks boot lock and the ignition barrel let me know I'm interested in purchasing :P

Thanks

From what your saying it sounds like an ignition switch (classic VW going wrong item).

You can get the ignition switch as a brand new item from VW or a VW spares dealer of the cost of £20, I would get a new one opposed to getting one of a scrappy, also at the scrappy this is a pain in the arse item to get out of a car. Replacement of the switch labour costs around £60+ depending on the garage.

You could attempt the swap yourself, but its one pain in the ass job unlike the easy job of an old golf, basically:

1) steering wheel cover off
2) unbolt the steering wheel
3) unplug indicator etc loom
4) you will now see the ignition barrel, where to the right of it will be a security screw, dremmel and undo with a flat headed screw driver
5) the hard bit is taking the next bit off unless you got the right tools, basically the many pointed star thing the steering wheel sat on slides off you need a tool to grip behind it and with alot of heave, pull it off, that way the unit with the ignition barrel and switch can slide off
6) easy bit, take switch out, put new switch in
7) putting it back together is just the reverse

Step 5 is a tosser unless you have the right tool, even mechanics say its a pain in the arse

Its a small switch that basically is turned on when the key is put in and turned, and switched off when the key is removed. Very easy to replace
