tried to put my "new" bumper on today after getting the exhaust sorted and the problem is with the bumper it will only fit if i take the support beam of.....

i dont mind doing this as i would like to see the final results of the bumper but at the same time i know if obviously is a safety feature if ur hit from the back but other then the safety side does it help the car structly in anyway and would it be illegal or fail an mot if i took it of?

you on about the bar that stetches across the back yeh? I wouldn't take that off. that's what takes the blow if you were to be bumped into. I can imagine without it the main chassis/shell of the car would take the impact, which if crimped in anyway would result in an immediate write off.

I could be wrong though..

Yes and Yes. You are severly reducing the chassis strength by removing the rear impact bar. Its saved my life before so I would never even dream of removing it. Its like would you run your car on a buckled wheel? Answer is a definite no.
