6n 16v Gearbox squeeling in 5th gear

Any ideas as to a cause ? It only does it in 5th gear.
Probably low gearbox oil. Common VW problem apparently. Get it topped up (VW dealers' claim that it never needs replacing is BS, especially on newer, somewhat flakier boxes) ASAP or risk losing the gear thru bits melting & seizing for lack of lubrication...
Possibly a missing tooth or some other odd problem?!
