New Polo 1997 1.0L owner has problem with car

Hi people,
I dont know if anyone can offer any advice here, but I have a 1.0L 1997 Polo.
This car runs fine, but when the engine is stalled, or even sometimes when i try and switch it on, it just will not start.
The battery is new, the tank is full.
It sounds like there is no fuel getting to the engine.
Usually after about 45mins, the car starts and is perfect again - until next time.
Called out recovery service, but as luck would have it, starts on first turn of key.
They suggested could be the coil or HT leads - any other suggestions please?
