rear brake lights ON

2day i went out did a bit to my car; removed vw radio and installed sony headunit, removed door panels and removed stock speakers ready for my new alpines. WHen id finished i realised that the rear brake lights were on. I double checked all the switches and that still didnt work. Im not that experienced with all the electronics but it all worked, just wondered if this might have some how made the lights stay on. If not what else could it be and how can i sort it? Ive just jad to disconnect the battery now until i found out what it is? CHeers

Did think it might be that but was sure they didnt exist? WHeres that switch situated then?

Feel the brake pedal and run your fingers up as far as you can go (oooh-err!) and have a good feel around... you should find the switch up there somewhere!
It'll be trapped I would have thought.

Yeah it must be that, I had to get the new part.
Interestingly enough the part they had on the computer at Walkden VW was the wrong part. For a 2000 (w) 6n2 (mk5) there comp showed that it was a 2-pin switch. Where as the switch in mine was a black 4-pin switch.
So either their computer system is wrong or I’m driving around in a cut and shut!
The former I hope lol.
Oh it cost me 18quid including labour to fix. I’m sure it would be easy enough but if you read another post of mines you will see that I am not dis-similar to a badly mangled badger.

I couldnt feel anything either. You have to remove the panel above the pedals to get to it i seem to recall. Couple of screws and a torch.

My cars going in next week to have the brake light switch fixed. The brake lights seem to be working OK but it was making the engine managment warning light go on, so I thought it would be best to take it to the dealers to get sorted.
Check if your engine managment warning light is going on (EPC light). That should let you know whether the switch is faulty or not.
I hope it only costs £18 to fix mine - I know the switch doesn't even cost £5 retail, so we'll see...
