My steering adjuster on Mk 4 Polo has stopped working, the column is floating. I can't see what's come adrift. Can anyone help?[/b]

My old 6n polo done this, but there are two ways to fix:
1) Get a new steering column which would have quite a high cost due to the parts and labor being involved, as well as fiddling with the ignition barrel being a possibility.
2) Go to a garage and say whether they can wedge it or fix the steering rack in a fixed place. Mine broke and they placed a nut and a bolt as the mechanism completely failed, this caused the column to stop drifting and was bolted into one position. Down side is you will not be able to readjust your column ever again!
Hope this helps

Thanks for that. Looked again this afternoon, and it looks as if a metal guide has snapped, so your fix with a bolt may not be possible, as I cant see anywhere it could bolt onto? May try a scrap yard tomorrow to see if the guide bit can be drilled off and then bolted on?
