Preping Doors

Well basically as most of you know, I had an accident with a white van driver and well I've finally managed to keep the car with a whole lot of shouting and one big phone bill, to the insurers. I wasn't left with a great sum of money after the excess and all the costs were taken out probably only just enough for me to get another VIC test and M.O.T. SO to cut the costs i was thinking about preping both front and rear passenger doors myself ready for spraying!

I've never actually done anything of the sort, so I need a bit of guidance on where to start once I've got both doors. I would of thought the first step would be to sand everything down?

Probably best to read up on some guides on how to spray and prep, I don't have any but i'm sure someone on here has.

The main jist is to rub down the existing paint, if any rust has formed get as much off as you can with a wire brush and cover in Kurust. Rub down with wet and dry so the surface is course enough for primer to stick then spray with Zinc Primer (you can buy both of these items from halfords or similar). Spray with light sandings in between layors until the surface is smooth, if it needs filling you would need to do that in these stages. Once primered, you need to spray it the colour of your car. 4 Coats minimum with sanding in between, make sure you don't forget to dry to blend in the finish with the current paintwork.

Hope that helps in some way, i've probably got a couple of inaccuracies but its vaguely right :D
