Speaker specs?

What are the speakers sizes in a 2001 GTi?
After reading this handy guide (
http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... 195#250195) I'm now tempted to move my Pioneers in... but want to know if they'll fit!

Blimey, they're big. Think the ones I have are a mix of 4" and 5". Damn.

Not sure on the whole depth, but I know they fit 59mm as that's the size of mine. Can probably fit a bit more though.

with speaker doors can you just unplug the originals and plug in new ones with the existing cabling?

You can do, you'll need connectors for your new speakers, as the OEM plugs are specific.
If your upgrading your speakers however, you may want to consider upgrading your wires.
