Hi ppl, I’m having a few problems with my car, it started off with the odd misfire here and there now its misfiring almost all the time as if its running on 3 cylinders, also it took a few attempts to start this morning which is unusual it normally starts first time every time. And finally sometimes I have no throttle response I push down on the accelerator pedal and get nothing at all for about 5 seconds anyone got any ideas what this may be

the accelerator i have an idea, i hope u dont have wat i have. basically i took it to the vw garage and they found out it was a dodgy wire in the wiring loom i think they said. they also cleaned out the throttle body whilst they were doing it. my problem was i could start the engine fine and the clutch could move the car along but when i put the accelerator down there was absolutely no response from the engine.

to rectify this it cost about £380 i only got it back thursday to. labour was about £300 as they had to take half the dash apart to get to the wiring as they couldnt figure out wat wiring it was.

if ur lucky this wont be ur problem or if it is u can ask them to check the wiring loom straight away which might save u time and money.

should be something simple, check your spark plugs, may be some oil in cylinder 3 as i did on my old one and it had exactly same symptoms

Misfiring seems to show that your spark plugs need changing and maybe your coil pack aswell. If ur a member with the AA call them and they should be able to read the ECU for any errors, this will then allow them to tell you what EXACTLY is the problem. I personally would go for triple platinum spark plugs (last for around 100,000 miles) and get the coil pack changed while i am at it. The thorttle response also seems to be related to the mis-firing and not a bad wire!

Thanks for the advice. I had ago myself this afternoon I changed my HT leads, cleaned throttle body with some Wynn’s crab cleaner from halfords also my crankcase breather pipe was full of crap so I cleaned that as well its seems to be allot better now but think it may benefit from a decent set of spark plugs. I really hope I’ve not got the same crab problem as kipper though sounds bad
