Aircon problem

My a/c sometimes blows hot, and I mean really hot!, even when the temp dial is on the minimum cold setting. The only way I can get it to stop is to switch off the a/c and fan and wait for a few minutes.
Any ideas?

Cheers
Rob

I've got the same problem with my car mate, seems to be a bit of a common problem, if you take it to your dealer they should be able to diagnose it with vag-com and go from there. I'm led to believe that it may be a dashboard out job to replace the mixer motors though so I might be expensive if you dont have an extended warrenty/warrenty. someone else may be able to shed more light on this though.

Nice one mate, how much did you have to strip and what bits? how much did the motors cost you?

Yes my heating system seems to have a mind of its own, thought the aircon just needed regassing. But new motors, gees is nothng straightforward on these cars. Looking forward to hear the fix.

If you can shed some more light on this it would be appreciated. Seems to be a number of us going through the same problem at the moment.

At least the VW build quality is consistently s**t !

This is the blow-up diagram of the Polo heating system. I have highlighted the two motors in yellow :

Image

The one on the left (Fresh Air and air circulation flap control motor V154) can be got at by "just" removing he glove box.
lordnikon is doing this right now (see http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... =8&t=42070)

Yorks, I cannot see how you can replace the one on the right (Temperature control flap motor V68) without taking out the WHOLE dashboard (which means the steering, which means the air bag, which means the battery negative, etc, etc). So, please show us how to do this second motor (V68) WITHOUT taking off the dashboard :)

My vag com tells me that both of these motors have problems on my 1.4 sports model

Diagram is ace fella ! :)

I am replacing both motors and have done the one on the right already (waiting for the other one to turn up) You can replace it by removing the glovebox and the piece of ducting at the front you will see when the glovebox is out. I removed the heater blower too but i dont think you need to do this now tbh. You can just see the motor which has a small gold screw in the bottom and then just unclips from the side and top. There is a green/black wire that runs around the edge of it which helps to idenitfy the unit :)

Also a 1.4 sport 100 too - jinxed i reckon ! lol

EDIT - ducting is either 10 or 19. The unit is actually on the passenger side too and not the drivers as indicated on the pic

Hi lordnikon, I don't get it. You said that you already replaced the one on the RIGHT (which is identified as 17 in the diagram). But that's on the DRIVER's side. Isn't it ??? If so, can you still get to it via the passenger side glove box (removed) ?

The ducting marked 10 and 19 un the diagram are foot-well ducts. They exist on both sides (drivers and passengers)...at least in my car.

I think you have replaced the motor on the LEFT side (marked as 8 in the diagram) which is behind the glove box. Correct me if I am wrong as you know what you are doing :D .

I've replaced 8 and 17 with ducting 10 removed aswell as the glovebox. The motor no 17 is on the passenger side - on my car anyways

If your motor 17 is on your passenger side, then the diagram is oviously wrong (as the diagram shows that it's on the driver's side).
Unless of course you have a left hand drive

Mine is defo RHD

The part no. 11 is also on the wrong side (being on the drivers in my car) so i can only assume the picture has a couple of back to fronts on it  The actual location on the side wise (height and depth) is spot on though, so should give some indication on where to look 8)
