Hi, i'm having some trouble with my 1.4se polo and im guessing its got something to do with the gearbox. Basically there is a grinding noise when i select the 3rd, 4th and 5th gears and the noise stops when the clutch pedal is pressed down. Has this got something to do with the gearbox, but i was sure that the gearbox mainly go on GTI's and not a 1.4! If it is the gearbox is there any1 that you guys can recommend to refurbish it with better metal bearings and not plastic ones, and sum1 who gives warranty with the gearbox. Also how much would it cost?

It sounds like the box They are all made of chocolate. The GTI especially due to the power thats put through it, but they all have the same problem.

How much does it normally cost to refurbish a polo's gearbox and do they put better, stronger bearings or do they just put standard parts back in?

It depends where its done. Generally speaking, if its refurbished properly with genuine VW parts, it will last, but if its a cheap recon with OE quality parts it will fail.

Not many places will put different bearings in as they are in some cases harder to source than the original parts.

My box full rebuild - thats a shot blasted case and full overhaul of the insides cost 575 plus the VAT and fitting, and it feels silky smooth.

There are places that will do it from 350 upwards, but be sure to check out the quality of their work before going for the lower end of the scale!

Mine cost just shy of 700 after vat.
