What is the alternative lub to use with clay bar? I've run out of the quick detailer stuff which seems very expensive for a small spray thingy.

Water in a spray bottle. I use this over QD, it's just a waste otherwise. Once done I then spray QD over each panel and buff off.

I tried water with a bit of car shampoo it worked ok but they clay would sometimes stick to the body work and brake apart.

I'm sure somebody was using something like Megs All Purpose Cleaner or Last Touch something like that

I've always used water with clay and never had any issues with it. Last touch would probably work, I wouldn't use APC though.
