SO the airbag light on my dash has been on for a while. I bought a cable and got the free copy of the ross-tech / vagcom software - when I try and check the airbag system I get "airbag controller not found" (or it might be "did not respond") ... is that good or bad?

I was always under the impression that VAG-COm and Airbag control modules didnt talk nicely together and therefore never tried to run any diag on them....


If you have the full version of the software you might be able to diagnose further... Its the only system in the car that I dont want to f**k up....

There is a warning that comes up in vagcom which is basically a warning and some 2000/2001 VWs (doesn't say Polo but then it is American and I don't think they know what Polos are...) ... but I figured that if it can't even talk to the controller then something ain't right?!

This problem DOES affect the polo as its the Part number aforementioned. They often dont respond on the first hit, so you have to turn off the ignition as it tells you to and turn it back on, and on the second hit they normally load up

Ensure your BAUD setting in the settings screen is set of 9600 or you will get controller errors.

hmm I did do that but it just did the same. I might recheck the settings and try again. This should work with the free version tho right?

absolutley. u just cant change settings on the free version

My airbag light is on alex, but ive tried the above following, turn ignition off then will scan it again etc and it still doesnt respond!

Hmm very strange. Either of you coming to any shows this year? If you cant connect, it normally means there is a serious problem with the controller.

i will be alex, which ones are you off to? iam off to ultimate dubs i think?

Most of them. Im not sure if Im going to ultimate yet, but ill defo be at spring fest!

I'm in the Channel Islands so not likely! I'm vaguely considering paying the $99 to get the full version.

It will make no difference having a full version or not Trust me I used to work at VW!

Oh. Fek. Don't tell me next course of action is to take the center console out to have a look at the controller... please... :p
