I was thinking just now if volkswagen made such an effort to make the polo more aerodynamic which includes lowering the suspension, what would happen to the mpg if you absolutley slammed it?
would it make it more aerodynamic or would it just upset all vw's good work and make it worse?
ive always thought those would look pretty cool slammed with a set of wheels on as ive never seen it done before.
cheers Dan

what makes you think the blue motion is lowered
its the same as standard but has deeper valances and skirts
lowering will have no effect on mpg

this is some information ive just taken from wikipedia....
Aerodynamics
On the Polo, Golf and Passat, VW have lowered the suspension, redesigned the spoilers and performed additional enhancements underneath each car so the air is channelled better giving less resistance to the air stream which produces better fuel consumption
so obviously it must have some effect

ye i imagine it has some but not a massive effect. Apparently having your windows open decreases your mpg too!

wow so the already amazing mpg you get from the bluemotion could be increased by lowering! along with free road tax you cant go wrong

you think we cant map the bluemotion for more bhp and more economy ?
so you get an ultra economical car with free road tax ... and still some kind of performance...and fun

The difference in MPG would be ultra small to no significant difference from the stock height to lower.
Yeh windows down decrease MPG figures by something like 5%?

As long as you replace the bluemotion alloys as they are gash !

I have debated acquiring a BM Polo (for example) and then having it remapp'd to offer better performance and replacing those hideous standard alloys for something much nicer

Although I will no doubt be pushing it over the barrier on emissions, type approval will remain because it has been tested and approved and given type approval by the Govt. testing agency. I am tempted to buy one of these and then tweak it to my liking, while all the time getting the benefits of 'free RFL' - the only thing that turns me off is the lack of A/C - would have to be a BM2 though.
